Every now and again I’ll be sharing fun & creative projects that are “OFF the page”. I’ll show you a fun project (most likely some type of paper project) and then I’ll show you how I either incorporated it into a layout OR created a layout about it OR how I used or displayed it. Sound fun? I hope so! So today’s WOW will be my first “off the page” project. Last year I helped my boys create some fun handprint turkeys and then I made a layout about them (you can see it HERE if you’re interested). This year I wanted to do something similar, so we tried our hand (or FOOT, rather) at footprint turkeys. I obviously didn’t come up with this idea on my own – you can find lots of footprint turkey inspiration on the internet and it might even be something you’ve done in the past…but I still wanted to share my version along with the layout featuring our project.

The process is super simple and really fun for the kids…and it’s not too terribly messy.
You will need:
* willing participant(s) (or you can do your own foot!)
*brown paint and a sponge brush
*cardstock
*patterned paper for feathers (I cut mine with my Silhouette, but you could easily hand-cut these simple feathers or let the kids do it themselves)
Step 1: Paint the bottom of a nice clean foot
Step 2: Press foot directly onto white cardstock (this step may need to be repeated more than once to get a nice clean image…or you can just use the first one you get – that’s what I did since my paint was drying too quickly)
Step 3: Allow the paint to dry completely and cut out the footprints
Step 4: Cut several feathers from patterned papers (I used papers from the Homemade 6 Bean Soup and Apple Cheddar Soup collections by Jillibean Soup – the colors are so fun for Autumn!)
Step 5: Attach feathers with adhesive to the back of the “turkey body”
Step 6: Add eyes, beaks, etc.
Step 7: Personalize with a little flag if desired
Step 8: Admire your cute turkeys
We had fun making the turkeys and I thought they were so cute I wanted to save them on a layout. Here’s another peek at the page:
{Layout Supplies: patterned papers: Jillibean Soup and American Crafts; Chipboard letters, borders, tags, ribbons: American Crafts; Toothpicks: October Afternoon; Small Letter Stickers: Lilybee Design; Scallop Border punch: Fiskars}
Are you making any “turkey” crafts this year? Do you save your “off the page” projects by adding them to your scrapbook pages? I’d love to see your projects – please link them up in the comment section below.
