Club SEI June Scrapbooking Kit

Our Club SEI June Scrapbooking kit features the Vogue collection. We thought we’d shake things up a little for this preview. So, along with showing off the scrapbook layouts you can create with the kit, we’re also sharing some inspiration for the Vogue collection.

CLUB SEI JUNE PREVIEW

The main source of inspiration for the Vogue collection was fashion. We love the diverse styles an colors that are so hot right now, like color-blocking and galaxy or “splash dyed” patterns…

Graphic 45 Mini Album and a Chance to Win

Graphic 45 Tag Mini Album

By Susan Lui

Here’s a mini album I created from scratch using Graphic 45’s Staples Tags, Metal Butterfly, Metal Ornate Key and French Country collection. The tags form the pages of the mini album as well as the cover. If you’d like to create this mini album at home, just read on

French-Country-Mini-Album-Graphic45-Susan-Lui-3-of-3

 What you’ll need:

Graphic 45 Staples Large Tag Album

Graphic 45 Staples Small Tag Album

Graphic 45 Staples Metal Butterflies

Graphic 45 Staples Ornate Metal Keys

Graphic 45 French Country collection – Abundance and Provence.

Graphic 45 French Country Chipboard 1 & 2

Black cardstock

Flowers, leaves, ribbons, string of pearls and a doily.

Instructions:

1. Cut a piece of black cardstock measuring 12” x 3 7/8”. Score the cardstock at the following intervals: 1”, ½”, ¾”, ¾”, ½”, ¾”, ¾”, ½”, ¾”, ¾”, ½”… and so on until you reach the end of the cardstock. The last scores should be ¾”, ¾”, 1”.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 2

 2. Accordion fold the cardstock as shown.

 SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 3

 3. Glue together the ¾” panels. Now put this aside and we’ll come back to it later.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 4

 4. Next we’ll be working on the cover and spine. Cut 2 pieces of chipboards measuring 3 7/8” x 6” for the front and back covers. Adhere French Country Abundance patterned paper to all 4 sides of the chipboards.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 5

 5. Take a large tag and score it at 4 ¾” and 7 ½”.  Fold along the score lines. This will make up the decorative spine for your tag album.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 6

6. Cover the outside of the large tag with Provence patterned paper.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 7

 7.  To reinforce the spine, cut a piece of chipboard measuring 2 ¾” x 3 7/8”. Now punch 6 holes into the spine as shown.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 8

8.  Adhere this chipboard to the inside spine of the large tag. Punch 6 holes matching those on the chipboard on to the spine of the large tag. Reinforce the holes with eyelets.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 9

 9.   Thread a black silk ribbon through the holes and tie a bow.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 10

10.  Let’s work on the covers now. Attach the accordion fold cardstock to the chipboard covers by gluing the 1” end panels of the black cardstock to the covers. The black accordion cardstock will eventually hold the inside tag pages.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 11

 11. Now attach the covers from Step 10 to the tag spine from Step 9. To do this, glue the black accordion spine firmly to the chipboard spine from the tag.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 12

12. Now attach the small Staples Tag Album pages to the accordion, and you have your inside pages. Your tag album is almost done. All you need to do now is to embellish your cover.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 13

 13.  Let’s start on the front cover. Attach a doily to the cover, followed by a chipboard frame from French Country Chipboard.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 14

14. Attach a Graphic 45 ornate metal key to a metal butterfly using a black silk ribbon.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 15

 15. Attach the key and butterfly to the chipboard circle as shown and attach that to the front cover using foam squares.

SusanLui-Graphic45-TagAlbumTutorial 16

16. Thread a string of pearls through a chipboard tag and swirl a flourish across the cover. Add some flowers to the cover and the spine and you’re done.

WOW #167: A “Two for One” System

Do you ever sit down at your craft table just to create a quick card? I sure do…and all too often, it’s a “last minute” thing for me.  I’m not sure why, with all of the crafting and card-making I do, I often find myself in need of a card when I’m ready to walk out the door to a party or gathering.  This is a habit I’d really like to break, and I’ve found that the best way to work ahead and be more prepared is to start incorporating a “two for one” system.  The plan is simple – every time I pull out supplies to create a card, I’m going to make another card at the same time – it can be an exact replica or just use the same supplies, or even the same design.  Here’s what I mean:

bundle of joy boy card set of 2 by wendy sue

Recently, I needed one baby boy card to give to a friend.  I pulled out my brand new “Bundle of Joy” collection from Echo Park Paper Company.  I decided which elements I wanted to use and put together a card.  While I had all of the supplies already out, I used similar elements to create a second card.

bundle of joy card by wendy sue detail 1

I used the “mirror image” of the design, along with similar elements. The cards are not exactly the same, but since I had everything at my fingertips, the second card went together really quickly!  I’ll put the extra card in my basket and save it for future use.

Now I want to challenge YOU to start incorporating the “two for one” system every time you create a card.  I bet you’ll build up your card supply in no time and you’ll avoid those last-minute card making sessions altogether!
